COACH CONTEMPLATE PLAYER FREEZE FOR 2009
|
As Greyhounds popularity grows the interest in players
wanting to join the team has brought about an enormous
response. From the time that the players first started
practice 64 players have filled out registration forms and
we are still getting calls daily, according to Coach Beeks.
It is truly a testament to how the organization is run and
superb example of the purpose of minor league football.
Because of limited roster space It has become necessary
to start considering a cut off for registrants to the team. I
am torn between knowing that all the guys coming

out and the actual number of players that are going to stay. Over the years it is a proven fact that players
too much for a lot of guys, as Coach Beeks explained. Although I am very impressed the turnouts so far I
still have to remember that everyone will not be here over the long hall. I will lose between 12 - 15 players
along the way and miss 4 or 5 more at one game or another due to work or family commitment so I have
to work out the percentages and by doing that my estimation of the remaining players will bearound 35
players if I keep the roster where it is now. I am going to give an open door to players that would like to
come out and prove thier loyalty to the team for another 2 weeks and temporarily enforce a freeze on
players until the process of elimination decrease the size of the roster. Players will have until February
7th and 8th practices to come out after that as space becomes available I will consider the applicant
based on position need. Players will be given a two practice oppertunity to show up for practice before
they are removed from the list unless otherwise approved by the coach.
