REDDAWGS DOMINATE IN DOG FIGHT
|
The Greyhounds get sent back on the porch after encounter with the Anderson Reddawgs. Coming into the
second game of the season the Anderson Reddawgs 0-1 were coming off a loss to the Spartan burg Vikings and
the Greyhounds coming in at 1-0 were poised to clash at Greer City Stadium. The annual game was renewed in a
game that had more meaning because for the first time in 4 years the Greyhounds and Reddawgs were playing a
conference game.
Riding high off of seeing the Reddawgs and the Vikings play this was supposed to be an open and shut case for
the Greyhounds but no one told the opposing team that they were supposed to come in to the Greer City Stadium
and lay down. When the game kicked off the Greyhounds had the advantage but that quickly changed as the
Greyhounds came out and the team Kryptonite set in and revealed the Greyhounds weakness, the turnover bug.
The Greyhounds came out and committed several turnovers in the first quarter that led to several quick points for
the Reddawgs.
Unable to establish a dominance on offense the Greyhounds organization began to falter. The defense did little to
offer any opportunity for resistance and give the Greyhounds offense a chance to recover. With ease the
reddawgs walked up in the Greyhounds dog house and took the Greyhounds dog bone.
Although the Greyhounds did little to prove critics wrong there were several highlights to build on. Rookie WR John
Pearson also pulling dual duty as the teams punter got off several booming punts including his first punt the sailed
62 yards. Returning as backup QB Chris "Tweet" Teasley came in to help try and stop the Reddawgs from running
wild and had several big plays on defense.
The play of the day came from #31 Robert Montgomery on a 53 yard scamper from scrimmage for a touchdown.
He took the hand off over the left side and didn't stop until he took an exciting leap into the end zone that set a
spark to the entire stadium. Then he had to quickly turn around and get himself ready to kickoff.
The Running Backs each had several good runs but could never string together a successful offensive threat to
the Reddawgs. JT Tobin had a couple of off guard runs as did Bo brown the power runner of the team. Chris had
a good run on a 37 stretch play that should have yielded more yards. Darvis Dorrah had several runs after catches
on swing passes out of the back field.
The offensive line improved on their previous outings but still have a long way to go to get back to the previous
status the they had enjoyed just a season ago. With room to go this was definitely the offensive lines best
performance of the season. With this room for improvement looming not only over the offensive line but the entire
team the Greyhounds still think that they are the team to be aware of down the road.
