| GREYHOUNDS HOLD FIRST 2007 MINI-CAMP |
Saturday January 13th the Greenville Greyhounds held it's first tryout for players to fill a 50 man roster. This was the first indoor tryout by a minor league football team in South Carolina and it was deemed a success with 28 men attending the first camp of the season. Coach Beeks said he was happy with the turnout, but I was looking for a few more linemen to show up. I like the potential of what I saw and that is a good step forward in building a winning team. We will have another mini-camp Saturday January 27th where we expect even more players aspiring to make the team. There should be more of a complete team make up at that time. The number of players was around the number I expected but the mix of positions was a little off, but still good. I know that there were at least 4 more linemen that are veterans on the team that had to work or could not make it because of other prior commitments and those guys being in attendance will really give us a look of a complete team. Hopefully as we progress through the next 4 tryouts we will reach the 50 man roster that we would like to carry throughout the 2007 season. We will be announcing the location and time of the next mini-camp on Wednesday Jan. 17th. This camp is open to the public so bring your lawn chairs and the kids and see the stars of tomorrow ----today. |
