The Greyhounds organization seeks to establish itself and the players as role models and upstanding citizens to the youth of the Upstate of South Carolina. It is our intention as leaders of the communities we each represent, to deter todays youth from the usage of drugs, gang membership, and other criminal engagements; instead we will use our influence to refer them to the importance of education, sports participation, community pride, and self preservation. As the Greyhounds organization grows in popularity and recognition within the community, we will use our influence to instill respect, honor, sportsmanship, a stride for a healthy body and mind in each child we encounter. Realizing that semi-pro football offers each player an opportunity to live out their dreams they also preserve the footsteps for future players to come.
|
The Greenville Greyhounds mission is to provide athletes in the community an opportunity to promote and develop football talents and leadership skills of each individual participant that is accepted by the governing body of the Greenville Greyhounds.

COACHES GET FIRST CHANCE TO WORK AS A TEAM
|
The Greyhounds coaches had a chance to get their first look at some of the talent joining the team this season. Coach Beeks and Coach
Ganshorn was excited as the activities began since this was the first time they officially worked together as a Coaching Staff. Right from the
outset the coaches seemed to be working together by communicating and constantly walking together showing a true since of teamwork.
Coach Beeks said that he was disappointed in the turn out compared to years past, but was quickly contradicted by Coach G who thought it
was a great turnout considering the weather and how the players were informed. After taking in that thought Coach Beeks agreed that due to
the weather it was a successful turnout after all. Coach Beeks said that he was not really prepared and that there is a lot of phone calls to be
made to veterans of the team and to a list that he did not call containing 55 names and that he is definitely looking forward to the next turnout.

Saturday February 20, 2010 the teams management attended the U.S.F.L. (United South
Football League) owners meeting in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Owner James Beeks and
Coach Bill Ganshon represented the Greenville Greyhounds franchise at the meeting.
The league meeting was held at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, which is also
the host site for the 2010 U.S.F.L. All-Stars Game and the leagues 2010 Championship
Game. As anticipated the Greyhounds was accepted into a league based on the
professional operation, the history of the team successfully completing it's seasonal
commitment. The management team made it official by paying the league dues and
signing a league affiliation contract becoming the only South Carolina team to sign thus far. Owner
James Beeks stated, " now that we have made our decision official, we can began to move forward with
the business aspect and team activities. We have also signed a contract for an official practice site with
Camperdown Academy we can press forward with the issue of finding a host site for our home games.
The management team is confident that they will have signed a contract with one of several potential
locations by this time next week.

CONTRACT SIGNED and SECURES PRACTICE FACILITY for the 2010 SEASON
|
A break through for the Greyhounds comes early in the search for a
practice facility for the team. Each year semi-pro teams look for places
to practice where they aren't run over by soccer, youth sports, and
activities where the field has been previously rented the Greyhounds
were faced with just that scenario before the first tryout and began
seeking a new location for the next two. One location that Owner James
Beeks had talked with Greenville County School District was the old
Parker High School where the first tryout was held but it has since been
sold to another school. With the next tryout looming with just over a
week away Beeks met with Camperdown Academy Administrators and
proposed a partnership forging the Greenville Greyhounds and
Camperdown Academy work together to benefit the community. The
Greyhounds previous record of working in front of kids was noted and
appreciated in a conversation, in brief the Greenville Greyhounds
reputation landed them a practice facility for the entire season with an
open door policy. The Greenville Greyhounds owner said that this was
a light in a dark room. He went on to elaborate that it is hard to find
other organizations willing to work with you unless we are throwing out
thousands of dollars at them, even entities that are linked to the
community that are supposed to be working with the community. It was
refreshing to meet with the Principle and get such a warm reception
from Camperdown Academy.

GREYHOUNDS ROSTER EXPANDS WITH TALENT
|
The Greenville Force have signed Tight
End/ Defensive End Joey Burks to a
pre-season contract. Joey has been with
the Greyhounds as a second year player
and traveled earlier this year with the All
Stars selected to participate in the
international all star game in Homestead
Florida. Joey had a tryout last year with the
Force and was unsuccessful at making the
roster, but has been persistent in his bid to
make the roster and take a step to move to
the next level. We will try to keep a tab on
Joey Burks as he makes progress to
become a Greenville Force football player.
The whole Greenville Greyhounds family
wish fellow Greenville Greyhounds
teammate Joey Burks, GOOD LUCK and
we will see you in June!

A whole new wealth of talent has invaded the Greenville Greyhounds
roster. The team has lost several players over the off season and left the
coaching staff wondering the returning players. At the first try out the
coaches was impressed with the turnout considering the weather but
was still left with a feeling of doubt when a low turnout of veteran
participation was evident. The second opportunity to join the team
showed a little more promise but Coach Beeks said that he sees
potential but is not yet fully confident of what the defense will
look like until further preparation has started. Coach Beeks however
was very optimistic when asked if he think that he can replace the
players from last years defectors. Coach Beeks says it is never a
question about if you can replace a player it is always a question about
what strategy you decide to implement to compensate for the
replacement. He went on to say that he had a cover 2 defensive
strategy last year and was looking to go back to a more aggressive
style defense. Offensively at the skill positions I think we are solid with
the exception of the offensive linemen as the only unsure situation that
we hope to address quickly. We are picking up interest as the season gets
closer but I don't want it to jump up on us so fast that we are not prepared.
We will start to settle starting positions quickly to be more effective and
efficient in practice.

GREYHOUNDS NEW PERSPECTIVE
|
Now that practice has begun, the Greyhounds team is showing the
most promise in the skill positions, but Coach Beeks said he is still
growing weary of the Offensive and Defensive Lineman positions. This
is a growing concern for me and has become an achellies heel for the
team at this time, but I am going to start focusing on trying to recruit
linemen to make this team complete. I want this to be season that
produces results. I can already see that these guys have a more
positive attitude towards the approach to the game preparation verses
having a lot of complaining about the situation at hand, focusing on
making themselves better, and allowing things that should be handled
by coaches be left in the hands of the coaches. It just make the flow of
the team that much better when everyone does their part.
